France (Paris): 334 (1886) Note: fungo leucosporeo a crescita lignicola su ceppaie o tronchi, preferisce le altifoglie. Per la sua crescita lignicola potrebbe essere confuso con altre specie a comportamento simile quali Armillaria tabescens o il tossico Hypholoma fasciculare. Si riconosce per il cappello vischioso, per le lamelle biancastre ocracee e per il tipico gambo dalla superficie vellutata. Ha inoltre la capacità di crescere anche in pieno inverno con il gelo.
