Cresce sotto conifera (pini a due aghi) cappello color laterizio, nocciola, vischioso col tempo umido.

Le lamelle sono decorrenti e brunastre.

Gambo centrale e attenuato alla base, talvolta presenta nella sua parte alta dei resti di velo che tende a formare un anello fugace.

Da non confondere con alcuni cortinari velenosi, data la notevole rassomiglianza, come lo speciosissimus.
