Etimologicamente significa fungo con lamelle sciolte o libere….infatti dal greco “lùo”sciolgo e “fùllon” lamelle, e “decas” dieci, cioe’ a decine, parecchi esemplari in gruppo.

 

Le lamelle sono relativamente strette, bianche a volte presentano una leggera sfumature rosa, adnate-uncinate.

Il gambo si presenta spesso incurvato alla base ed è abbastanza pieno, fibroso ed elastico.

 

Il cappello puo’ raggiungere 10-12 cm. di diametro, inizialmente si presenta convesso per poi appianarsi e poter avere il margine lobato e ondulato, il colore varia da bianco(carpofori che non oltrepassano lo strato di foglie soprastanti) al bruno scuro in base anche alla stagione e all’habitat. La carne emana un delicato odore fungino.

 

Personalmente lo associo moltissimo all’odore di terra bagnata…infatti dalle mie parti viene chiamato anche fungo di “terra” o di “filera” per la peculiarità di crescere in fila, aggregato in gruppi, raramente isolato.

In tal modo la filera riesce a estendersi nel terreno anche per svariati metri.

Cresce sia nei boschi di latifoglia che di conifera e nelle zone aperte limitrofe ai boschi.

Non di rado la crescita dei carpofori avviene in linea circolare, per esempio attorno ad un albero, probabilmente per l’irraggiamento del micelio nel sottosuolo.

Questa specie puo’ essere facilmente scambiata con altri funghi appartenenti allo stesso genere, la maggior parte dei quali sono commestibili.

Maggiore attenzione va’ posta nei confronti dell’ Entoloma sinuatum, (tossico) per la vaga somiglianza macroscopica, pero' quest’ultimo emana un forte odore di farina.
